The aim of this course is to gain basic knowledge and practical experience in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and to explore existing European data resources (Geodata / Open Data) that could be used to foster spatial thinking and understanding of the spatial dimension of the social-environmental relationships and driving forces related to the sustainable development worldwide. Learning Outcomes: * Students will practically work with an open source GIS software (QGIS) and international, regional and local Open Data databases to acquire data related to natural resources, population and socio-economic indicators, along with SDG indicators. * Students will gain basic knowledge related to geodata structures, spatial reference systems, and cartographic principles * Students will be able to produce thematic map layouts to better communicate the spatial dimension of sustainable development determinants and indicators in European, regional and local contexts.
