Calculating the permeability from a particle size distribution curve; methods for estimating soil water content (capacity methods, time-domain reflectometry); data acquirition in situ; water potential - water content model; one step outflow experiment; infiltration (as according to Philip, among others); infiltrometer; permeameter; energy balances (Boltzmann substitution); modelling transportation processes; general simulation concepts.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
This lecture series aims to deepen the students' understanding of soil physics by expanding on the earlier lectures from Semester 6. Practical problems and issues are described in theoretical and experimental terms, with special emphasis placed on obtaining field data. The students should learn how to produce and validate simple simulation models using this field data.
