Various methods of soil physical and chemical analyses in laboratory and field

Previous knowledge expected

Basics in soil physics

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Knowledge:
- Describe lab and field methods for determination of physical and chemical soil properties
- Describe the importance and use of the obtained soil physical and chemical parameters

Skills:
- Determination of particle size distribution and particle density
- Determination of saturated hydraulic conductivity, soil bulk density, and porosity
- Determination of (an)organic carbon content, pH, and electric conductivity of soils
- Determination in the field of saturated and unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, matric potential, volumetric and gravimetric water content

Competences:
- Selection and application of adequate methods for analysis of selected soil properties
- Result interpretation of selected experiments conducted in the field and lab
- Evaluation of a soil for agricultural purposes
