-Lecture on the family tree & Evolution
-Lecture on characteristics of different fish families and species
-Practical exercise on fish classification on both juveniles and adults (laboratory)
-Field trip and practical exercise (Danube fish tank in Engelhartszell)

Basic skills in fish ecology recommended (812.344 Ecology of fishes)

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

-Understand the development of the family tree of fish and the major differences between the different fish families.
-Identify and distinguish native and introduced fish species in Middle Europe, both adult and juvenile life stages.
-Assess and apply different methods for species identification.
