The course covers case studies on groups of pathogens such as viruses, viroids, bacteria and fungi. We will work on following topics in groups and seminar presentations:

Significance of plant diseases
Diagnosis of plant diseases
Parasitism and pathogenicity
Host range of pathogens
Development of disease in plants
Stages in the development of disease
Effects of pathogens on plant
Physiological functions
Mechanisms of plant attack
Defense mechanisms

This lecture is based on the contents of the lecture 953.100 Plant Protection.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The aim of this lecture is to give students advanced knowledge in phytopathology especially plant-pathogen interactions as an essential basis to approach practical problems as well as topical research.
