Content

Practical work on different unit operations in a pilot plant facility.
The work includes:
- sterilisation, media preparation, fermentation
- centrifugation, homogenisation, precipitation
- filtration, ultrafiltration, preparative chromatography
in a technical scale.
Practical work is supplemented by model-based calculations.

Previous knowledge expected

Master level on bioprocess engineering and equivalent curricula. Advanced knowledge in Bioprocess Engineering and process modelling, microbiology, biochemistry required.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After completing the course students have skills in production and purification of recombinant proteins including modelling of such a process. They know about scale-up strategies and they are able to calculate and estimate most relevant parameters for industrial use of the respective unit operation. They know how to establish mass balances of a bioprocess.
