The lecture explains the terms and the main columns of Nature and Landscape Protection. The main issues are protected areas, species protection, landscape planning and environmental assessment. Against this background selected biotop types and measure to protect these structures are presented and discussed. The selected biotop types are mainly man made biotops which are important eleb´ments of the cultural landscape such as wet meadows, hedges, agrobiotops and urban biotops
