Function and use of the light microscope. Preparation of fresh plant material for microscopic observation. Structure of the plant cell. Structure of tissues: meristems, differentiated tissues (dermal, ground, and vascular tissue). Structure of organs (leaf, primary and secondary stem, primary and secondary root). Metamorphoses of the organs.

Participants will have a basic understanding of the structure of plant cells, tissues and organs and are able to identify various tissues and understand their function. Students of this course can handle a simple light microscope and prepare simple samples.
