The course puts forward two tenets concerning creativity, firtsly: "conceptual structural design and sources of inspiration", and secondly "art before science". In terms of design it stresses the importance of precedents and intuition. Starting with efficiency of form in nature, this course goes on to provide an historical survey of architecture and structire from the earliest times to the present, including some very interesting examples.
One part of the course consists of fascinating case studies which are very varied from small to large, in different materials, and illustrating different thinking.
A second part of the course consits of retrofitting measures with respect to deragdation and hazards acciedence
