After having successfully passed this course, the students have a basic knowledge in nature’s design of plant organs, tissues and cells. They are able to link different tissue types occurring within different plant organs (stem, leaf, and root) to their biological functions. Due to the practical work with the microscope, students develop an ability to imagine cellular structures of tissues in three dimensions which is an important precondition to understand wood biological structure-function relationships. Students of this course are experienced in handling a microscope; this expertise is necessary to succeed in other follow-up courses, for instance in “wood biology”.
