Introduction into the methodology used for molecular analysis of gene expression in mammalian cells: cultivation of mammalian cells, analysis of induced gene expression by RT-PCR and immunoblotting, detection of cellular stress with the aid of a reporter construct (GFP) and fluorescence microscopy.

Upon completion of the course, the participants
- have learned how to use basic molecular biological tools to tackle tasks in biotechnology and genetics
- understand the molecular mechanisms governing the stress response of mammalian cells
- have acquired experience in mammalian cell culture
- have gained practical experience in protein and RNA isolation
- have acquired knowledge of the protocols used for detection of cellular proteins by immunoblotting
- understand the principles of gene expression analysis by RT-PCR
- know how to determine the activity of reporter gene constructs by fluorescence microscopy
