The basics of descriptive hydrology, probability concepts in planning, reservoirs, dams, spillways, gates and outlet works, open channels, hydraulic power and flood-damage mitigation will be discussed.

During the course the students will get the basic knowledge of the principle concepts and methods in the field of water management and hydraulic engineering.
After successful completion of the course the students are able to recognize, define and quantify the problem in the field of water management and hydraulic engineering. With application of known principles and simplified calculation methods, they are able to evaluate possible solutions in the ongoing decision making process
