Methods of biological (natural enemies: predators, parasites, pathogens), biotechnical (physical, chemical) and mechanical pest control, and integrated plant protection. Students are introduced to biological, biotechnical and mechanical control methods in the context of prevalence and behaviour of natural enemies of forest pests. The potential for applying control measures in both latent and outbreak pest phases are drawn. The core aspect of all such measures should be control of the pest and protection of natural antagonists and non-target species. Particular attention is given to damage prevention, reduction in risk of damage and long-term regulation (control) of forest pest species.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Biological, biotechnical and mechanical methods are presented with regard to occurrence and action of natural enemies of forest pests. Possibilities of control measures in outbreak phase of forest pest insects are presented as well as in the innocuous phase. Crucial point of all control measures should be control of target pest and protection of antagonistic and indifferent species. Furthermore, special favourites are: prevention of damages, diminution of risks of damage and long term regulation (control) of forest pest specis.
