Content

Students gain insight into the causes of soil (ground) water pollution and the current legal situation in Austria. An overview of estimating the loads of pollutants as well as the possibilities of measures to reduce pollutants for soil-(ground) water resources is given.
Within the lecture the following aspects of soil water protection will be taught:
1.) Sources for soil (ground) water pressure
2.) Important chemical components
3.) Introduction to the simulation model EPIC-GIS
4.) Case Study: Tullner Feld with a presentation of current research results
5.) Legal requirements (Water Framework Directive)

Basic knowledge in Soil Water Management

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students receive knowledge about the reasons for the pollution of soil- (ground) water. They also have the ability to discover and ratify the systematic originator of pollution
