In this lab practical we will test the influence of different environmental conditions on root morphological and rhizosphere traits of different crops and assess their impact on overall plant growth performance in small groups. Practical work will include setup and harvest of a pot experiment (including the collection of root exudates), sample processing and analysis, data evaluation, interpretation and presentation of obtained results.
This lab practical is a complementary course to the theoretical lecture on 911.312 (Rhizosphere processes and application to sustainable agriculture and remediation / soil protection) but can also be attended separately.
- Previous knowledge expected
-
basic knowledge in soil science and plant physiology
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
- Know different experimental setups to study root and rhizosphere traits
- Explain and apply laboratory safety rules
- Systematically carry out a pot experiment
- Explain the principles of the applied analytical methods, evaluate raw data and apply simple statistical tests
- Present experimental results in scientific presentation, interpret and discuss them
