1) Introduction (principles in policies; Common Agricultural Policies (CAP) - history, goals, instruments, and challenges of CAP);



2) Principle of Supply and Demand Theory (marginal value theory; optimality conditions; objectives of consumers and producers; welfare measures);



3) Food Chain (Structure of agricultural and food industry; food economics; concept of elasticities);



4) Measuring Agricultural Protection (protection, support and welfare measures; welfare economics);



5) Agricultural Trade (importance of trade; concepts of absolute and comparative advantages; welfare analysis of trade instruments);



6) Price Theory (analysing price fluctuations; price policies; Cobbweb model);

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Based on the course ´Principle of Economics´ (VO 731.115) will this lecture strengthen the theoretical understanding of individual behaviour (producers and consumers) in context of agricultural and food policies. Finishing this course, students should be able to independently apply analytical tools to actual problems in the field of agricultural and food policy and to consistently derive solution strategies for better decision making.
