Content

Vegetation technology describes the technique and sustainable use of plants for design work, especially in urban areas. The following construction techniques are taught during the LVA:
- Greening methods and seed materials: dry seeding, hydroseeding, mulch seeding, etc.; seed testing; seed mixes.
- Greening of meadows, pastures, embankments, slopes and ski slopes
- Recultivation of mine dumps, landfills, abandoned quarries, gravel pits and other extreme sites
- Establishment and maintenance of lawns: ornamental lawn, utility lawn, play lawn, gravel lawn, flower lawn, flower meadow
- Establishment and maintenance of sports lawns
- Nursery stock, cultivation and propagation of woody plants
- Tree and shrub planting in urban green areas
- Tree protection on roads and construction sites,
- tree control, tree care, tree renovation,
- Greening of buildings (greening of facades and roofs)
- Planting of hedges as wind, noise and exhaust protection
- Maintenance of green infrastructure
- Rainwater management with green infrastructure
- Preparation of specifications
Using examples, the sustainable application of the individual construction techniques will be demonstrated and jointly analyzed and discussed. The aim is to identify selection criteria for suitable sustainable construction techniques, which in turn can be used for own planning, execution or maintenance of Green Infrastructures.
The building materials, construction methods and construction processes necessary for the planning, production and operation of sustainable vegetation-technical structures or green infrastructures will be learned.

Following SDGs are Adressen: 11, 13, 14, 15.

Previous knowledge expected

Basic technical knowledge and understanding
Knowledge of representation techniques of technical solutions
Knowledge of plant structure and botanical systematics

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will be able to use the knowledge they have acquired to independently design simple vegetation engineering structures with regard to the choice of materials, construction methods, and construction process for different areas of application, as well as to propose the maintenance measures necessary to maintain the sustainable functionality of these structures.
