Introduction to the subject and definition of fisheries management at natural waters. Legal background and description of the legal organs of fisheries and the fishing scene using the example of Austria. Description of the common practices in fisheries management under consideration of related problems. Introduction to the consideration and application of environmentally sustainable management approaches, under the objective of conservation oriented use of fish stocks.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successful completion of this course, participants are able to:
•Describe methods and concepts of fisheries management,
•Explain ecological and ethical principles of sustainable fisheries management,
•Assess effects of artificial fish production and stocking,
•Analyse conflicts between fisheries and conservation measures,
•Assess possibilities and limitations of sustainable, ecological oriented fisheries management,
•Discuss the acquired knowledge in relation to the legal framework and practical context of Austria's fishery
•Apply ecological knowledge for sustainable fishery in inland waters
