Content

This lecture presents the multitude of edaphic animals: their morphology, strangeness, adaptions, needs, and ecosystem services. To bridge the gap to practical work, I demonstrate methods for obtaining animals from the soil. Interactions between the soil and its inhabitants, and the soil food web are discussed.

Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students of this lecture have a good overview of forms and performance of edaphic animals and of basic soil zoological methods. They are well oriented for advanced courses and graduate projects with a soil biological focus.
