This lecture presents the multitude of edaphic animals: their morphology, strangeness, adaptions, needs, and ecosystem services. To bridge the gap to practical work, I demonstrate methods for obtaining animals from the soil. Interactions between the soil and its inhabitants, and the soil food web are discussed.
