Content

Nuclear marker like isozyms, microsatellites and cytosolic markers like mitochondiral DAN will be introduced. Further new generation sequence techniques will be discussed; a practical class where phylogenetic programs will be introduced will be at the end.

Previous knowledge expected

It is easier to follow if a basic knowledge of genetics is present e.g. it is good if the lecture 916121 Genetic basis of biodiversity has been visited before this lecture.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

In the last years lots of methods were developed in population genetics. During this courses they shall be demonstrated showing the advantages and disadvantages. Another important point will be the interpretation of the results of these methods, starting from genetic variation of allozyme data ending with the phylogenetic interpretation of sequence data.
