Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The goal of the lecture is to introduce major theories, concepts and methods in applied Environmental and Resource Economics (z.B. Social Welfare, Costs, Benefits, Efficiency, Sustainable Development, weak and strong sustainability criteria, externalities, optimal pollution regulation (point and non-point source pollution), Coase Theorem, optimal and efficient utilization of renewable and non-renewable resources, open access and public goods, Cost-Benefit Analysis, Cost-effectiveness Analysis, Impact Analysis). These fundamentals are important for an efficient and sustainable resource and environmental management. After the lecture, students should be able to recognize and describe scientifically resource and environmental problems, to derive relevant research questions and use appropriate tools such that solution strategies can be offered to a spectrum of societal challenges.
