ATTENTION: 4-ECTs lecture over 2 semesters!!!
In order to achieve the most effective learning success, the documents (pdfs, papers, videos etc. in BOKUlearn) should be worked out by the students in home-learning on the basis of the guiding questions (to be found in the pdfs in BOKUlearn) BEFORE the lectures, so that the guiding topics and guiding questions can be specifically answered and discussed!
CONTENT TOPICS OF THE LECTURE:
The general, technical and legal basics of waste management from waste prevention, reuse, waste collection and waste recovery (material, thermal, biological) to waste disposal and aftercare will be covered. Current topics regarding circularity of waste and residues will be presented.
Depending on the topicality of the subject areas, examples of the situation, as well as relevant laws and also current thematic focal points are dealt with: e.g. waste generation and development, waste management requirements for the Circular Economy, current examples of waste avoidance and waste recycling such as food waste, electrical waste and waste disposal. Waste management and climate protection (reference to bio-reactor landfill), mechanical-biological treatment, thermal treatment, disposal of waste, incineration residues, aftercare measures, securing and remediation of old landfills.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
After successful completion of the course, students will know the basics and interrelationships of the interdisciplinary and extensive field of waste management, circularity and waste technology, will be familiar with scientific methods and approaches for the collection, analyses and evaluation of waste management data and, based on this, will be able to assess current problems and develop future solution concepts according to the EU waste management hierarchy as well as to allocate and apply the learned concepts, methods, treatment and disposal technologies in a targeted manner.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
