Content

Basics and elements of statistics;
probablility theory;
concepts of hypothesis testing;
concepts of parameter estimation;
statistical models;
estimation of fixed and random effects;
nonparametric methods;
logistic regression;
Solving practical examples with the computer programmes Excel (data recording) and SAS (statistical analysis).

Previous knowledge expected

Basic knowledge in statistics (equivalent to bachelor course statistics in Agricultural Sciences).

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

In the theoretical part, basic knowledge regarding (co)variance analysis, regression analysis and simple non-parametric methods is gained. Students develop understanding of theory by applying it on practically relevant examples.Examples solved together but also by students on their own (both by hand and by computer) broaden the knowledge.
Finally, students are able to prepare data for statistical analyses accordingly, to use adequate methods and to interpret results correctly.
