Overview about origin and sources of air pollution, influences of meteorology to the distribution of air pollution. The use, organization and function of monitoring networks for air pollution control
math modeling of pollutants, reduction measures, situation of pollutants in Austria and Europe, avoidance strategy, regulatory framework, limit values, complex of problems with ozone, greenhouse effect and climate change, the trends in Austria and Europe, the legislative framework, the international measures against climate change, the current problem with green house gases, avoidance strategy, the Kyoto protocol and implementation, sustainable use of energy.

The course is held in a biennial cycle, blocked after clearance with the students. Previous knowledge about the Austrian legislation and the administrative structures are helpful. A voluminous script is available in the lecture together with hand outs.

Giving an introduction and a general overview about the status of air quality in Austria, with special focus of measures against climate change.
