Basic rules of preservation of evidence (examination, documentation, representative sampling, methods of sample treatment and storing) for giving expert opinion; use, function and effect of modern devices for diagnosis; composition and testing of the effectiveness of wood preservatives - certification and guaranty; diagnosis and combat of wood destroyers in buildings, furniture and new insulating materials; fungi causing health problems for humans; application of and working with technical standards; two-day excursion to specialised companies (e.g. boiler pressure impregnation, producer of wood preservatives)

- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successful completion of the course, students have intensified and enlarged their knowledge in the field `Diseases & Pests of Wood-based Products and Wood protection´ and are familiar with the diverse demands in the various fields of practice. They know modern techniques in diagnosis and monitoring, the state of knowledge on modern pesticides (testing, methods of application, performance, environmental risks etc.) and are therefore enabled to become an official expert and a well trained specialist in various branches of wood industry / wood protection. Furthermore, the course intends to stimulate innovations and scientific work (e.g. Masters or Doctors thesis) in the above mentioned field.
