Visit of forest management units in Austria; demonstration examples; factors determining failure and success of silvicultural strategies. The discussion of real life examples for innovative and/or typical silvicultural concepts shall demonstrate the interactions of owners objectives and interests, biological and technical constraints, and a complex socio-economic decision environment.

Students are introduced to challenges, prospects and problems of implementing sustainable forest management concepts in mountain areas. Students should be familiar with basics of natural resource management. No special know how in silviculture is required.
