Content

The lecture part contains the following contents: Development history of the instruments, contents of the EU directives on EIA and SEA, comparative presentation of the instruments in an international context,

Further development and content of environmental assessments and reference to other precautionary instruments such as health impact assessment.

Trends in EA research and practice, practical examples of current content such as
- Climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation,
-Conservation and enhancement of biodiversity,
-digitalization,
- acceleration/ streamlining/ simplification,
- SDGs

In the exercise part, students analyze and discuss comparative approaches for various projects.

External guest lectures broaden the view of practical application (Environment Agency, international researchers, project developers,...).

Previous knowledge expected



Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

- Knowledge of the development and current practice of EIA and SEA
- Insight into the main components and process of EIA and SEA in Austria
- Knowledge of the main methodological approaches and their application
-Comparative knowledge of the international application of the two impact assessment instruments as well as
- understanding of trends and advancement in context of challenges such as climate change or loss of biodiversity
- the application of novel technologies and support by AI
