Lecture:
•Thermal hydraulic systems and components
•Compressible and incompressible, one- and twophase fluids in thermal hydraulic systems – analytical description; correlations for stationary and non-stationary, laminar and turbulent flow, friction, one- and twophase flow
•Special phenomena: choked flow, countercurrent flow, etc and related correlations
•Heat transfer to compressible and incompressible, one and twophase fluids and induced phase change – example incompressible fluids: subcooled nucleate boiling, saturated nucleate boiling, filmboiling and dryout and related correlations
•Computer aided simulations – balance equations, energy- mass and momentum equations, integration of partial differential equations, implicit/explicit differencing schemes, Courant-limit, practical applications
Practical Exercises:
•Simulation of a pressurizer (Matlab)
•Simulation of a loop of pipes containing a heat sink and heat source (natural circulation)
•Stability analysis natural circulation - dependency of modeling approach (Welander problem)
•1-D Computer programs, example: simulation of piping system with heat source and heat sink (Relap)
•Simple applications
