Content

The lecture part focuses on conservational and biological principles as well as legal and economic frameworks for maintenance measures in different types of habitats. Special focus is laid on critical analysis of maintenance measures concerning the development of cultural landscape, protected areas and habitats as well.
Furthermore, recent challenges in nature conservation concerning conflicts between utilisation, maintenance of habitats and succession in the context of the development and future of cultural landscapes are discussed. Within this course, selected projects from practice are presented by external experts.
In the practical part of the course small groups of students will work on selected topics and present them with the help of a scientific poster. Two field trips will provide insight into the practical implementation of nature protection measures.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Management of ecosystems
Students are able to implement knowledge of the fundamentals of nature conservation by means of practical conservation measures in different habitats; they can understand current conservation problems in the tension between the use and care and deduce management measures.
