Content

To clarify with illustrative examples from research the reasons and consequences of global diversity loss.
To learn specialist fundamentals on biogeography and biodiversity patterns, ecology, population genetics and speciation.
To assess role of magnitude from genetics to ecosystems and possibilities to act at different levels.
The lecture addresses those students that aim to be active and present in faunistic planning, in population management or in conservation biology.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students should learn main facts and theories of biodiversity loss and the position of the subject Conservation Biology and respective job opportunities in this context. They should know theory and praxix of measuring diversity indices and of management objetcives. They should have the skill to apply this knowledge to apply and solve management objectives concerning neobiota and diversity. Thereby analytical, creative and intuitive thinking should be applied. Students should gain the competence, to position themselves in questions concerning saving biodiversity and to judge critically human action worldwide and local that leads to diversity loss. They should be able to see the context to their job picture. Aim is to see and identify the personal responsibility of single consumer but also of trained biologists bildeten "Biologen" and to apply, that allows a sustainable personal and professionwise development.
