The LVA aims to convey traditional and molecular aspects of grapevine breeding. This includes not only quality improvement aspects but also stress management through targeted breeding. Due to climatic changes, the optimization of quality and resistance/tolerance to pathogens and pests must also be increasingly important in viticulture. In this context, the students should known the measures in breeding, such as new molecular methods to increase resistance or molecular marker methods for selection. However, the traditional breeding methods should also be included as a comparison. Current scientific work should support the topicality of the LVA in order to give the students, whose focus is on scientific work, a basis.

The student:
• Get to know and assess the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and molecular grapevine breeding.
• Understands the connections between traditional and molecular selection and can implement them theoretically.
• Learns about the latest scientific research and can discuss and evaluate it.
