This course is held as a VU (combination of lecture and exercise). The essential topics of the lecture part include
-) Building systems in timber construction
-) Multi-storey timber construction
-) Façade systems
-) Design of timber-concrete composite ceilings
-) Timber bridges
In the exercise part of the course, the softwares Rstab and Frilo are introduced. Subsequently, the students design a load-bearing structure and calculate the entirety with Rstab. The internal forces of the individual members are interpreted and rechecked/recalculated using simplified manual calculations. Detail connections are dimensioned or verified with the software Frilo, before also being recalculated manually.
After positive completion of the course, the students are able to plan structural frame and truss load-bearing structures made of timber with the help of the software Rstab as well as verify the results using plausibility checks. Furthermore, detailed timber connections can be dimensioned with the help of the software Frilo. The contents of this course presuppose knowledge from all basic lectures of the Bachelor’s programme, in particular the course Mechanics and statics.
- Previous knowledge expected
-
Prerequisite for this course is course 891.113 Fundamentals of Timber Construction and course 876.100 Mechanics and statics.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Aim of the lecture is the knowledge transfer of material-specific and standardization-specific fundamentals for the structural design and dimensioning of timber structures.
