The students are directly involved into current research projects at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, the Institute of Food Technology, or the Institute of Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology – depending on interest and available places.
For two weeks they work full-time in research laboratories, supervised by research staff in the respective labs.
The students acquire knowledge in enzymatic or microbial conversion of renewable raw materials into value added compounds and/or analytical methods to characterize such processes.
A lab report will be written, documenting the learned methods and interpreting the obtained data. The students give a short presentation in front of each other allowing to share and discuss their experiences in the different research labs.

Basic knowledge of organic chemistry and biochemistry is required. Depending on the chosen topic, the students must have basic knowledge about analytical methods and/or experience in microbiology.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The students will gain practical insights into the principles of green chemistry in the context of a research-guided practical course in the laboratory.
After the course the students are able to prepare simple laboratory experiments. They can plan and carry out the preparative work, can do the experiments, analyse, interpret and document those results.
