*Simple genetic models (1- and 2-locus)
*Estimation of heritability and genetic correlation
*BLUP estimation of breeding values
*QTL - genes of large effect
*Marker assisted and genome wide selection

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The course aims to provide the genetic and mathematical backgrounds for procedures applied in animal breeding. Most traits of interest in animal breeding are quantitative and may be measured in terms of amount (e.g., kg milk, litter size) or duratrion (e.g., winning time in horse racing or longevity or time to disease in many species). The lectures start from sipmle genetic models, advance to the infinitesimal model, assumung the joint action of many genes with small effect and finish with combining the infinitesimal model with the effects of genes with large effect.
