Biology of relevant diseases and pests of wood and wood-based products and the disposition of timber for attack as well as conclusions for strategies in prevention and control; Problems caused by the global trade with wood, wood-based and natural fiber products (alien species, quarantine measures); Strategies of prevention and control by proper construction, chemical and physical protection measures; The Austrian catalogue of approved pesticides; National and EU standards for constructional, physical and chemical measures; Treatment of contaminated timber as an environmental problem.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successful completion of the course, students have acquired knowledge on frequent and important harmful organisms (especially fungi and insects) on wood, wood products and natural fiber products. They are familiar with their biology and ecology as well as the basic strategies for diagnosis and prevention. Furthermore, students know the various strategies of prevention and control (by proper construction, chemical and physical protection measures).
