Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

While classical forest mensuration deals with stocking volume and yield in forest stands, this course will introduce procedures for other variables (forest biomass in different fractions, commercial and ecological and multiple use-parameters) in other units than stands (Regions, Nations, Forest enterprises). Following procedures, which are well established will be dealt with: Wood in terms of dry mass, conversion factors for stack volume; 3-P-sampling for the individual tree assessment of needle-/leaf-mass and area, and the fast assessment of stocking volume in forest management districts; abbreviated sampling procedures in forest stands and management districts (n-tree-samples); Large scale inventories (Forest Enterprise, Austrian National Forest Inventory, Level I and Level II forest condition monitoring program of the UN/ECE and the EU-commissions); Permanent inventories for balancing growth and harvest and several tree damages.
