The visualisation of plan contents is a central task in landscape planning and architecture. In addition to the preparation of spatial data (map production), this increasingly includes three-dimensional visualisations to make planing projects "visible" before they are implemented. New methods and techniques such as Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality are also becoming increasingly important in this area and require corresponding theoretical and methodological knowledge for implementing three-dimensional models.
In this course, students are given a sound introduction to digital visualisation techniques (3D visualisations) for landscape planning and landscape architecture. In addition to theoretical considerations on the preparation of plan contents, 3D models are created and presented using various programs.
The following topics are addressed:
* System overview (landscape planning vs. landscape architecture)
* Learning techniques for three-dimensional modelling and texturing
* Visualisation of landscape changes
* Visualisation of vegetation stocks
* Working with light and shadow (rendering)
* Importance of digital visualisation techniques for communication in the planning process
During the practical exercise units, the students' previous knowledge is taken into account. The following systems are available for dealing with the questions:
- 3D modelling with Trimble SketchUp
- Rendering with Twilight Renderer, Kerkythea or TheaRender
- Entry into landscape visualisation with TerraGen 4
The course is also accompanied by a BOKUlearn course with further information and assistance (see link below).
NOTE: Due to the Corona safety measures, the course will be held mainly online. When selecting the software, care was taken to ensure that it is freely available and can be installed on common systems. If someone does not have the appropriate equipment, please contact me immediately to discuss options for participation in the course.
For participation an active user authorisation (BOKU account) is necessary (https://boku.ac.at/boku-it).
- Previous knowledge expected
-
Good computer skills. Basic knowledge in graphic software and image manipulation as well as basic GIS and CAD skills
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
The aim of the course is to learn the central principles of digital visualisation and modelling techniques for landscape architecture and landscape planning.
Through practical work with three common 3D programs, students can immediately transfer the acquired theoretical knowledge into a practical application. After completing the course, students are able to create 3D models independently, visualise them and prepare them for various media
In addition, possible applications and forms of presentation in planning practice will be taught.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
