The following topics will be dealt with:
1) Introduction into modelling
2) Modelling water supply systems
3) Modelling sewer systems
4) Modelling wastewater treatment plants
5) Modelling the impact on receiving waters
- Previous knowledge expected
-
-) Basic knowledge on design models for water supply systems, sewers and wastewater treatment plants (e.g. course 811311 [Projekt Siedlungswasserbau] or 811358 [Planning and Design in Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment])
-) understanding the use of the software packages EPANET und SWMM is required (these software tools are used in the courses 811311 [Projekt Siedlungswasserbau] and 811358 [Planning and Design in Water Supply and Wastewater Treatment])
The software packages EPANET and SWWM can be downloaded for free at http://www2.epa.gov/water-research/epanet and http://www2.epa.gov/water-research/storm-water-management-model-swmm, respectively.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
1) Basic knowledge on modelling of water supply systems, sewers, wastewater treatment plants and receivers
2) Recognising the limits of classical dimensioning procedures and dynamic simulation
3) Better understanding on the processes in water supply systems, sewers and treatment plants
