In the lecture part, basic forms of research methods for spatial and environmental planning are presented. Both survey methods (field studies, mapping, interviews, document study) and analysis methods (especially qualitative content analyzes or thematic analyzes) as well as basic principles of scientific work are discussed. In the seminar part, the students work in groups of two on research methods on the basis of published research projects and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the method applications.

The students grasp the basic content and principles of essential research methods in spatial and environmental planning and receive a basic methodological repertoire. This includes the selection of suitable research methods for different types of research questions in a research process. Both survey and analysis methods are discussed.
