Content

The number of participants is limited to 32. The course will be held in Zoom with breakout sessions. The zoom link will be provided in due course. On Friday a group presentation is taking place in person at BOKU. The seminar room will be announced in due course.

Design of a plant for production of a recombinant protein including fermentation and Downstream Processing

- Dimensioning of fermentation
Model based design of fermentation (Fermenter, media compositionf, heat exchange energy balance, oxygen demand, growth kinetics, product formation)

Downstream Processing

- Dimensioning of Downstream Processing: Model-based design of downstream unit operations centrifugation, cell disintegration, filtration and chromatographic purification

Previous knowledge expected

Basic knowledge in Bioprocess Engineering, Fermentation technology and Downstream Processing. (Lecture Bioprocess Engineering I)

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After completion of this course students have learned how to design and upscale of processes for production of recombinant proteins. They know how to use simple mathematical model for prediction of unit operations in up- and downstream processing. Students have improved their knowledge in biochemical engineering.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
