Based on the principles of soil water management as part of rural water management a detailed introduction to the interrelationships between groundwater levels, the distribution of soil water, soil drainage, crops, and mechanical soil cultivation is provided. The students should then be able to suggest technical measures which can maintain or ensure sustainable use of groundwater, but which also have a minimal impact on the local ecosystem.
