In this seminar, you will engage with foundations of sustainability research and key concepts and models of sustainability. We will examine sustainability discourses and compare different approaches and understandings of sustainability, including alternative perspectives (e.g., buen vivir) to support critical assessment. The course addresses conflicts and synergies between ecological, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability and explores actor-specific sustainability strategies (e.g., individuals, companies, governments, and social movements). You will also learn tools and methods for assessing sustainability outcomes. Building on these foundations, you will conduct independent research on selected real-world case studies, which you will analyze and present in teams, followed by structured reflection and discussion of your findings and the development of your own solution approaches to concrete sustainability challenges.
