Brief description:
Earthquakes and volcanism are geological phenomena that can change and endanger our habitat in both the short and long term. As part of the excursion, we will visit leading institutions in Austria that deal with such phenomena. Seismic and geomagnetic measurements are carried out at the Conrad Observatory. Joanneum Research describes and investigates a variety of geological processes, including volcanism. Nuclear Engineering Seibersdorf deals with the short- and long-term disposal of radioactive waste. Geosphere Austria is the umbrella organization for geological research in Austria.
