Content

Geomorphology and geology in the Altaussee area (Styria). The excursion will be carried out using BOKU buses and will start in the morning on June 23 in Vienna and end in the evening on June 25, also in Vienna (BOKU Exnerhaus). We will be staying at Haus Elisabeth in Bad Aussee.

Topics (selection): Geomorphological and geological overview - Salt (occurrence, mining, and tectonics), glacial history; Lake Altaussee - geomorphology, limnology; Mass movement deposits between Trisselwand and Loser - large blocks and fossil trees in Lake Altaussee; karst phenomena on the Loser and in the Koppenbrüller Cave, glacial and glaciofluvial sediments in outcrops.

Previous knowledge expected

Geological and geomorphological basics.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Knowledge of the geological and geomorphological fundamentals of the region.

Application of field methods: field surveys in the context of scientific questions, geomorphological analysis and mapping, outcrop description, and scientific sampling.
