In this course, wooden support structures are optimized for resource efficient topology and manufactured using an industrial robot. The structures then will be 3D-Scanned for quality assessment and finally the load bearing capacity will be tested.
The core of the course is to gain experience with 3D planning software, topology optimization, computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), handling an industrial robot and 3D-scanning device. The individual steps are worked on in groups, with close interaction with the instructors. The course takes place at Türkenschanze and the Robot Laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf.
Course structure:
Part 1: Programming (at Türkenschanze)
Part 2: Milling (at Robot Laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf)
Part 3: 3D-Scans (at Robot Laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf)
Part 4: Testing (at Robot Laboratory in Groß-Enzersdorf)
- Previous knowledge expected
-
Computer Science Basics, motivation for active participation in the entire course, motivation to contribute to practical implementation.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Participants, upon completion of the course, will have acquired initial knowledge about the various subprocesses, ranging from digital planning to the preparation of production data for automated wood processing and the actual processing itself (using an industrial robot with milling spindle). Students will be able to handle simple 3D models, convert them into production data, and perform basic operations with the robot. Additionally, they will be able to use state of the art 3D scanning device and process the gathered data. They will also be capable of using handheld tools.
