The lecture offers an introduction to organic chemistry and provides an overview of important classes of organic substances and their typical reaction mechanisms.
The aim is to develop a fundamental understanding of chemistry that links the structural and functional characteristics of the respective classes of substances with their associated physical and chemical properties.
The importance of chemical structures is also discussed and explained using examples of important compounds and polymers that play a major role in the wood, pulp, and biomass industries.
- Previous knowledge expected
-
Previous attendance in LV Allgemeine Chemie is recommended
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
-
Understanding of the interrelationships and structure of the most important substance classes in organic chemistry and biochemistry. Knowledge of simple reaction mechanisms. Knowledge of the chemical structure of natural and synthetic polymers.
