Teaching theoretical and practical knowledge about growing and propagating trees and shrubs in nurseries.
1. Theoretical part
- Brief introduction to tree nurseries
- Propagation of woody plants
- Vegetative propagation methods such as grafting and cuttings
- Determining the quality of woody plants
2. Practical part in the Groß Enzersdorf experimental garden
- Identification of native trees and shrubs based on distinguishing features
- Nursery work
- Grafting work
- Cutting propagation
- Quality assessment of young trees
- Creation of a mother plant area
- Tool handling and maintenance
3. Excursion
- Tour of a tree nursery
- Familiarization with nursery stock and production processes
- Analysis of implementation examples with nursery stock
Work clothing is required without exception for work in the experimental garden (both practical days), including safety shoes (S3 with toe caps and puncture-resistant soles), work gloves, and sun and cold protection.
