Please note that participation in this course requires prior agreement from one of the teachers to act as your supervisor. As this is a research-oriented course, supervision capacity is limited. Typically, each teacher supervises a maximum of one student per semester.
Students are therefore strongly advised to contact potential supervisors well in advance, ideally before the start of the semester, to secure a place. Without confirmed supervision, participation in the course is not possible.

Previous knowledge expected

Basic principles of breeding and genetics.
The course is intended for MSc and PhD level students with appropriate background.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The expected outcome of this course is experience what it means to be a researcher. This will be achieved through the work on an individual personal research project under the guidance of the lecturers.
In the first step students are supposed to acquire more detailed knowledge by reading relevant scientific papers and other publications. Depending on the research topic they carry out the practical work (lab work, data analysis or detailed review of literature) and conclude their work with a report, resembling a scientific paper.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
