Content

In this course students acquire hand-on experience in modern analytical chemistry. The topics and samples reflect ongoing research projects of the group in the fields of bio(techno)logy, environmental and/or food sciences.

The course comprises of a 1 week (full time) lab excercise + 1 workshop on publication writing + 1 week (full time) writing a mini-publication.

The lab exercises will take place at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry, Muthgasse 18, 3rd floor. Attandance is mandatory. The second part i.e., writing a mini-publication can be done at home.

This practical course is a follow up of the course NWNR300869 ‘Separation science and mass spectrometry’. We recommend taking both courses in the same semester. This allows to learn the theoretical background and put it into practice. ory works.

Previous knowledge expected

Knowledge of analytical chemisty at bachelor level e.g. lecture NWNR100028 ‘Analytical Chemistry'.
In addition, it is necessary to have practical experience in analytical chemistry e.g. lab exercise NWNR100051 'Exercises in instrumental analytical chemistry’.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After completing the course, students will be able to plan and perform analysis using organic or inorganic mass spectrometric techniques, respectively. They will have basic data evaluation and interpretation skills. Students will be able to summarize their findings in the form of a mini-publication in the form of a mini-paper.
