Content

Based on work done during contact hours and seminars, the various options for optimizing recombinant gene expression are explored.
Six topics are covered in six teaching units. One topic per teaching unit.
Finally, we will define subjects for the final presentation of each student. The presentations are given on two additional afternoons.
Students must attend at least seven teaching units (135-minutes each unit) out of eight, to graduate.
The minimum number of students is five.
Here are six topics that will be covered through discussion of the relevant literature.
•Host cell engineering in animal cells: glycosylation, reduction of apoptosis
•Host cell engineering of E. coli: BL21, K-12, etc. Expression in IBs vs. secreted
•Gene transfer in bacteria: conjugation-transformation-transduction,
•Gene transfer in yeast: transformation, selection marker, optimization of the gene of interest
•Gene transfer in plants: direct, indirect, expression hosts in vivo and in vitro
•Gene transfer in mammalian cells: transfection, transduction, infection, cell fusion

Previous knowledge expected
